Padappakara Church

Padappakara is a peninsula with unmatched panoramic view. Formerly a part of Kumbalam parish, it includes 4 wards of Perayam Panchayat. The parish came to being as a result of gradual migration to this area from neighbouring parishes. When the population increased, Sunday Masses were conducted here in the school shed by the priests from Kumbalam parish. Later land was purchased and a chapel built. In 1963 when Rev. Fr. Stephen Netto was the parish priest of Kumbalam, Padappakara was raised to the status of a parish by Bishop Jerome Fernandez. The first Parish priest who stayed here and served the parish was Rev. Fr. Joseph Martin. It was during his time (1967) that the construction of the new church started and it was completed during the time of Rev. Fr. Marian Dominic. Rt. Rev. Jerome M.Fernandez blessed it on June 10, 1973. The parish is blessed with a plenty of vocation to priesthood and religious life. Many sons and daughters of Padappakara minister both in dioceses in India and abroad.
